Soap Sculpture

Soap Sculpture

I am a student in Sculpture and Installation at Lincoln Lutheran. For our most recent project, we carved an abstract soap sculpture. For this project, we needed to use different tools to be able to carve out holes and make more depth in the soap. We took a couple of class periods to be able to carve it because it is a very detailed project. We started by making what we wanted it to look like on a piece of paper and cutting that piece of paper. Then we placed the paper on top of the soap and poked holes through the paper. The reason for doing this is then I can carve out how I want my project to look. I think that this was a very fun, but difficult project. It was really fun because you can make anything out of soap, but at the same time, you need to have a lot of patience for this. I overall really enjoyed it and I would suggest this to anyone who has a lot of free time and wants something creative to do. If I could do this project again, I would’ve made a turtle out of soap.
